Hello Please Take a Free Museum Ticket Thank You

In Depth

It’s the dog days of blog summer so here’s something wholesome: free museum tickets!

The Verge points out the Smithsonian’s annual Museum Day is coming up September 22, and you can download a ticket here. There are a number of cool museums and historic sites in the mix, like the Cooper Hewitt Smithsonian Design Museum and the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum in New York. But this is really the ideal excuse to go visit the most idiosyncratic museum that you can find nearby on the extensive list of participating institutions. For instance: There’s the Anna Jarvis Birthplace Museum—dedicated to the founder of Mother’s Day—in Grafton, West Virginia; the Antique Boat Museum (??!!) in Clayton, New York; the Museum of Russian Icons, in Clinton, Massachussets; the Museum of Miniature Houses, in Carmel, Indiana; the East Jersey Old Town Village, in Piscataway, New Jersey; the Delta Flight Museum, which is basically on the premises of Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport; the World Museum of Mining, in Butte, Montana.

Disappointing that my search for “maple syrup” returned NO participating institutions, however. Guess I’ll have to settle for the Hudson River Museum instead.
