I’m going to be unpopular and say I really hate this business model. I kind of understand its neccessity (especially half a century ago), but all in all I feel like its a form social extortion. One of my aunts and a couple of good friends of my mother’s chose to go this route after being (well off) stay at home mothers for years. They were constantly inviting us to “neighborhood cocktail parties” which were obviously fronts for selling cheap makeup and plastic jewelry.

Money is always tight with us, but it still drove wedges into our relationships with them if we didn’t buy anything. We wanted to be supportive of their ventures, but the experiences were so uncomfortable eventually we just stopped going.

That being said, Tupperware is (or was) a high quality, useful product, and I might have bought one or two things if they had been on offer.
